On 15th February 2014 , five Communities of Health (CoH) groups won funding at the Well London Launch and Participatory Budgeting Event after being voted by local residents and patients of Stratford Village surgery.
The event, which took place at the Stafford Town Hall, saw INUF, NUSHO, Newham Carers Network, Active Newham and Basic Sports & Fitness winning up to £3000 each upon successfully presenting their respective health and wellbeing project ideas that they believe will benefit the local residents of Strafford Village.
The winning CoH groups were amongst 25 other organisations shortlisted to briefly pitch their ideas to the residents and patients, who had the opportunity to vote for projects that meet their health and wellbeing needs.
Speaking on their win, NUSHO said: “We’d like to thank Stratford residents and local organisations for voting NUSHO, making us the number one project on the day.”
As part of the funding criteria, each project presented to the judging residents must show how it aims to encourage healthy eating and physical activity, improve people’s mental health and wellbeing, promote healthy use of public spaces, and promote health through arts and cultural activities.
NUSHO, INUF, Newham Carers Network, Active Newham Basic Sports and Fitness are now planning to deliver their programmes between March 2014 and March 2015.
Prior to the event, the groups attended a CoH Partnership Network meeting, where they were supported by CoH team with developing their bid applications and received tips on presentation
CoH Team said: “We are very proud of our Communities of Health groups for winning the funds. It’s great to see that their hard work, motivation and vision have been recognised in this way. We are confident they will deliver what the residents of Stratford need.
